Time passes....

Life's too busy to update my blog! Time passes and what seemed to take forever...sort of happened over night! On January 13, Jane stood up and started walking! At 17 months of age. The new year started with lots of crawling and now she's up and walking!
Okay, really, how did it happen? Lots of floor time with her helping her crawl. Brain gym with Katie Philippov and some cranial sacrum therapy and there she goes!

Busy Parenting and Developmental Milestones

"In these days of busy parents and overburdened caregivers, confinement in infant seats and playpens and time spent in front of a video or television show often substitute for play. But babies and toddlers are just discovering their bodies-and just forming the vital connections that link brain with action," writes Jane Nelsen in her book entitled Positive Discipline, The First Three Years.

Because of my busy parenting :) Jane has spent way too much time in her car seat (as I drive the older kids everywhere), in the high chair (watching me as I cook) and in her playpen (or in my arms) as I run around the house...not to mention the hours she spent in her swing when she was much younger.....So I knew she needed floor time...and tummy time....and we did (try to) spend as much time on the floor as possible...but there was always a (very good) reason to plop her on her bum somewhere where she would be safe and happy so I could get stuff done! So.....she's 1 year old now and not crawling.....and hates tummy time!

Okay, no more excuses! It's Jane's time now....and guess what, it's only taken a few tries to get her somewhat happy and pretty mobile while on the floor....but she has a long way to go.....

To address and support all these developmental milestones I've asked Katie Philippov to teach a class in the fall (see description below) as part of the Society for Healthy Sensory Processing Development. As Anat Baniel Described in the webinar, "Kids Beyond Limits: Breakthrough Results for Children with Autism, Brain Damage, ADHD and Developmental Delays", all children have special needs. A child is born with 22% of size of adult brain. Children have to learn everything. And all children brains can become “brilliant”!

And I've started this blog (as an aside to the SPD blog) to raise awareness to all the pieces that come together to lay the foundations for raising a capable, confident child. If we can all practice conscious parenting (me especially!!) and become the parents are children need (and support all their abilities).
